When to See a Surgeon for Oncological Surgery
Your primary care physician or your medical oncologist, a physician who specializes in treating cancer with drugs and oversees all aspects of your cancer care, may refer you to a surgical oncologist, or surgeon that specializes in cancer related surgery. Treatment plans may include radiation and/or chemotherapy, in addition to surgery.
Because surgical oncology is typically complex, many oncological surgeons specialize in management of several types of cancer. You may also see a radiation oncologist if your care includes radiation treatment. Regardless of your case, the surgical oncologists at the Center for Advanced Surgical Oncology help provide options for your cancer care so that you may achieve the best outcome.
